The spring Artgasm show including the installation of Biological Clock along with other art around birth and rebirth will be opening on Friday the 22.

Between April 17th and April 30th Femina Potens will be presenting exhibits & groundbreaking performance art focused around Birth, Conception, the Womb, & Motherhood. Exhibits for our April ArtGasm include Sadie Lune’s Biological Clock, An ongoing piece about time and fertility, which will peak in a queer fertility insemination ritual performance at the gallery. Collaborators for this piece include Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens. Madison Young will be opening her exhibit of Becoming MILF, which addresses her journey through pregnancy and birth while continuing her work in the adult industry. Ms Young will be doing a live performance piece in the gallery in which she pumps breast milk and hands out breast milk ice cream to the gallery goers. Other exhibits include pieces from Amelia D’Entrone’s photography series After Birth, which explores the emotional and physical adjustments experienced during post-partum. ArtGasm will be taking place at the Michelle Oconnor Gallery located on Mission St at 17th St. Gallery Openings, gallery hours and performance times will be posted shortly.

Take the Queer Fertility Survey!
Each survey takes 5-10 minutes, and is an interactive input part of the Biological Clock project, inspired by the kinds of questions I’ve been asked or asked myself since the beginning of the project around time and fertility, my desire to get some anecdotal data, and an atmospheric sense of some of the current general feelings around issues of time and queer fertility, especially from people who identify as queer.

I think taking surveys is fun, I’m interested in using surveying as an artistic media to gather impressions from the wider world and to also inspire further thought and conversation around topics I’m curious about. I also think that it is an inherently biased tool, and as an artist I’m interested in acknowledging and working with the bias, grasping a momentary impression or conceptual trend in a likely insular population, as opposed to fighting it in the interest of objectivity.

This is also a way of working through the barrage of questions and interrogations around my means, intentions, abilities, motivations etc. that I am frequently subjected to when I let people know that I (a queer, single, sex-working, low-income, weirdo, artist) want to have a baby.

A hands-on workshop about incorporating safer sex into your sex life, facilitated by a sex worker with 10 years of experience using safer sex techniques in her personal and professional life. Using a harm reductive perspective to sexual health we will talk about topics such as: Are there political implications to safer sex? How is safer sex relevant to queer sex? How do you make it hot, fun and easy? We will use demonstrations and the option to do interactive practice with many of the tools and techniques discussed. Open to all genders.

On November 11, 2010, my 32nd birthday, I’ll be performing 32 Actions: Cross Training for Teaching Myself to Love at the Kotbusser Tor U-Bahn station. This is a performance piece patchworked from 32 actions sent by you, my community.
When: 11-11-10, 11:11am-done
Where: Kotbusser Tor, near the blumen und pflanzen shop if super cold, on the upper platform for the 1 line if warmer….

How to collaborate: Please help me exercise my practice of loving by sending me a suggestion for an action related to the idea of Teaching Myself to Love, within the guidelines below.*
I’m looking at/for loving specifically in these areas:
-Self/body
-Spirit
-Family
-Friends
-Sex
-Romance
-Community

But your suggestions need not be limited or tied to any one of these arenas.

Your suggestion may come from your own practice of loving; it may be something you wish you were doing, could do, or was having done to you; it may be specific to me or something you just want more of in the world. Its connection to the idea may be literal, intuition-based, conceptual, or abstract; the actions can be fun, silly, personal or intense. The idea of Teaching Myself to Love consummated in an action is open to your interpretation. A first step in Teaching Myself to Love is learning to love from others.

I will perform the actions in the order that I receive them, unless some are impossible to do before others, or I get many more than 32 suggestions. In the case of ‘too many’ suggestions I will select 32 that feel most helpful for me to explore. I welcome you to come visit during my performance of the actions, though I’m not sure how long they will take.

*Guidelines for suggestions:
-interactivity is great
-please send actions that require minimal props or specific costuming
-if your action requires props/objects please keep them to things that you:
a. know I already have
b. are able to bring to me to use in the piece
c. are easily obtainable and cost less than 5 euro
-no full nudity- it will probably be very cold. if your suggestion is sexual please use creativity to make it legal/safe(ish)
-each action must take 20 minutes or less to complete
-be as detailed or as simple in your description of your action as you like, you may give me more or less room for interpretation depending on how specific you are.
-1 action per collaborator

I would love documentation help. Just so you know, the performance last year took 5.5 hours, so if you’d like to catch all/most of it, know that it may take the whole day (depending on the kinds of actions I receive, of course.)

Wow, the wind is literally howling like teenage werewolf out the window as I write you. It’s not only autumn here (Fall is mostly a confusing term to the International crowd) in the, “what a lovely crisp stroll by the canal, all painted with reflections of swaths of rose-gold trees, and oh my look! a canal-side flea market with a couple grilling fish so quaintly and deliciously for only 3 euro 50″ sort of way, (that was Sunday), but as of today, I have deemed the outdoor sex season officially closed for the year in Berlin. Hopefully someone will get riled up by the officiousness of my pronouncement and a surprise warm spell and lure me into an off-season frolic, just to make a point. Speaking of frolicsome points, this week is my first Berlin Porn Film Festival : http://www.pornfilmfestivalberlin.de/pff_e/, which is pretty exciting and will keep me busy off-screen and have me getting busy on-screen.

It’s also my first ever Halloween out of the U. S. of A. My initial plan was to throw a big educational Halloween party to help bring the joys of the season to all the Europeans who grew up without Jack O’Lanterns and trick or treating. But I scrapped that plan when I learned that here it turns out, my favorite holiday is not well received by the International community in Berlin, its mostly seen as a weird example of the ubiquitous and obligatory capitalist American cultural infestation and colonization. So I’ll learn how it feels to make a costume on the fly just for me, spend the day talking about and watching porn, and hopefully get a chance to carve the pumpkin at the Turkish Market. I see what they mean though, the only visible Halloween-oriented propaganda is a smattering of posters advertising pre-fab Halloween parties at the kind of giant mainstream liquor-sponsored clubs we never go to.
